Making your way across the frozen fields, you trudge through the snow. It's walkable, but a long, cold trek. The snow comes just below your knees, and clings to you, making each step a struggle. Snow crunches underfoot, and the wind whistles.
It's too cold for it to melt against the warmth of your skin at least. Or perhaps your bodyheat is fading. You can't really tell because your fingers are red, and you can barely feel the phone in your pocket where you've shoved them.
You've checked it twice now. No signal. It was less encouraging each time, the hope growing a little fainter. You shut it off to save battery. Just because it doesn't work here doesn't mean it won't work elsewhere.
You reach the woods. Thick trees rise from the snow, heavy trunks packed close together, with twisting upward branches. It's not as cold here. The trees block most of the wind.
You spend a few moments delving further before you find a hollow tree.
It's the largest tree you've ever seen, with a trunk nearly 10 feet across. The gaping hole near the ground is almost four feet tall, and you can see the hollowed out walls inside. It seems mostly dry, with a smattering of snow inside, but not nearly as much as out.
You peer in. It blocks the wind completely, and your hand, resting on the so;id bark, finds it sturdy enough. You can stay here, maybe get a fire going, or see if there's something better further in.
What do you do?
